Growing in agricultural areas near ditches and canals as well as in the mountains, this grass can be an outstanding lab host for many grass feeding skipper larvae belonging to the following genera: Amblyscirtes, Ochlodes, Atrytone, Oarisima, Poanes, Ancyloxypha, Lerema, Lerodea, and Thymelicus.
